At the confluence of music, sound and visuals, the works of Robert Este blend and take on various forms from songs, soundscapes and music production through to photography, prints, still & motion graphics and video.
Using analogue tools and digital platforms Robert Este embraces both the abstract and the representational, weather telling a story, exploring a concept or capturing and expressing a mood.
After competing a Bachelor of Arts In Politics (International Relations), Foreign Languages and European Studies from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, followed by an intensive course in Film and TV Production, Robert has been working on various solo projects and collaborated on audio and video productions as well as photography and sound design projects with artists, professionals and Educational Institutions throughout Europe, New Zealand and Australia

FRACTALS Series, 2021/2022
The series Fractals 2022, is part of my ongoing fascination with fractals - an exploration of the worlds within worlds, the seed that contains the whole, and the whole that unravels the seeds.
GEOMETRIC ECHOES, 2012
Geometric Echoes series reflect my interest in chaos and randomness and how they seem to be inextricably bound with order, predictability and structure.
I often photograph and create images that contain multitudes of patterns and geometries and I’m fascinated by a complexity that is reflected in the structure of elements and their chromatic variance.
At times, upon revisiting my images, I feel a tension and a need to manipulate and rearrange the elements so that I rein in the complexity in order to reveal an inner order or symmetry and a subtle relation with simplicity.
I feel that complexity and chaos induce a tension that points to unbounded possibilities and the limitless. Order and regularity on the other hand, allude to a different kind of tension, generated by boundaries, limits, predictability and structure.
I aim to resolve these tensions and bring about a sense of balance with Geometric Echoes.

SOL series are about organic textures re-imagined in the context of imaginary mythical beings alluding to antediluvian pagan deities.

The selection of photographic works currently showcased on my website are not in a chronological order, as I tend to rotate and revisit the works depending on the context and how they may relate to my works in progress.
TWIST Series, 2012/2022
TWIST is a series of audio visual compositions that incorporate photography, motion graphics and original music. The twisting motion progressing in sync with the musical composition depicts the splitting of a continuous smooth image into constituent lines, similar to fibers in a solid fabric that is being twisted and stretched.
Somewhat in a counter-intuitive sequence, the static image inspired the undulating movement which in turn inspired the musical composition.
SWIFT Series, 2012
SWIFT series reflect my ongoing interest in the unfolding of patterns. They are found equally at the macro and the micro levels and provide a sense of order, predictability and direction.
With the Swift Series, I explore various patterns in the context of splines or continuous mathematical curves.
